Ethics of technology
Fiachra is an applied ethicist at the Institute of Ethics in the School of Theology, Philosophy and Music at Dublin City University, and a Marie Curie visiting research Fellow at Queens University Belfast.
Fiachra wrote his thesis on the patenting of biotechnological products (GM crops) in order to analyse issues of justice in relation to patenting, technology, international trade, and the environment. He has spent a number of years working on various aspects of applied ethics, including the ethical and social implications of virtual reality and social networking, the ethical implications of human enhancement technologies, the ethics of brain-computer interfaces, and the ethical implications of pilot ‘Internet of Things’ schemes.
Fiachra is currently a Marie Curie research fellow with the ASSISTID programme, his research in this project focuses on the ethics of assistive technologies for people with autism and intellectual disabilities.
Technologijos etika
Fiachra yra taikomosios etikos profesorius Dublino universiteto Teologijos, Filosofijos ir Muzikos fakultete, taip pat Europos Komisijos remiamame Marie Curie tyrimų draugijos narys Karalienės universitete Belfaste.
Fiachra savo disertacijoje tyrė biotechnologinių produktų patentavimą, siekdamas išanalizuoti teisingumo problemas, susijusias su patentavimu, technologija, tarptautine prekyba bei aplinka. Jis praleido ne vienerius metus tobulindamas įvairius etikos aspektus, taip pat pritaikydamas juos virtualiojoje realybėje, socialiniuose tinkluose ar žmogaus sveikatos stiprinimo potekstėje.
Šiuo metu F. O’Brolchain dalyvauja Marie Curie vardinėje tyrimų ASSISTID programoje, kurioje jo kuriamas projektas akcentuoja pagalbinės technologijos žmonėms, kenčiantiems nuo autizmo ar mąstymo negalių, etiką.
