On Wednesday, we at TEDxVilnius gathered 180 of closest friends at Paviljonas to watch the magic of TED unfold. This year’s event, TED 2016: Dream, ends today in Vancouver, Canada. We watched two sessions live: Code Power and Imagine There’s No Countries. In Code Power, we witnessed an interview with the eccentric founder of Linux and Git, Linus Torvalds, who said he created his world-changing operating system simply because he himself had need for it. He said he believes that open-source technology is the way to change the world.
To celebrate the day of love, we’ve gathered a little bouquet of our favorite TED talks on the subject for you!
Come join us to hear great talks from TED 2016 conference live in Vilnius!
We are very proud and happy to announce that TEDxVilnius 2014 speaker Julija Ladygienė was awarded the “Campus” prize at the“Campus Vilnius” conference, which is an exclusive seminar for teachers aiming to help them understand global changes and apply them in their daily work.
TEDxKids@Vilnius 2015. The kids’ excitement and enthusiasm, along with inspiring and engaging talks, made this a day loaded with new discoveries. But the biggest of all was still to come. At the end of the day, the organizers walked onto the stage and announced that four kids would be sponsored to go to Copenhagen to visit one of the speakers – Peter Madsen – a passionate aerospace engineer, submarine builder, entrepreneur, and co-founder of Copenhagen Suborbitals, and visit his rocket lab.
We're able to bring you ever improving TEDxVilnius event experience only thanks to our partners. With ambition to make 2016 events even better than before, we are looking for new corporate partners and you can help us find them!
Social cleavages. Challenges. Unexpected places. How many times are people left behind simply because they did not have the opportunity to give a strong statement about their existence? How many times were they knocked down and how did they stand back up? We're proud to be a part of spreading TED ideas around the globe, as our team member Eglė Kruliauskaitė and past speaker Nate Mook brought TEDxKamitiPrison to life: an event to showcase the amazing and often unheralded work that goes on within and beyond the walls of prison.
A month after TEDxVilnius 2015 event and only two days until summer we invite you to join us for the very first TEDxVilniusWomen event that will gather our community all around the world to watch the livestream of TEDWomen2015: Momentum conference in Monterey, California. The event will take place on May 28th at Čiop Čiop, culinary loft (2 Žvejų str., Vilnius).
How do extraordinary individuals differ in their nonverbal communication? We'd like to introduce you a special project from TEDxVilnius 2015 by our photographer Jurga Anusauskienė, where she has captured the body language of speakers. Jurga came up with an idea to shoot speakers' body language early before the TEDxVilnius 2015 event. As the nonverbal communication accounts for only minority of communication, Jurga shows ideas, thoughts, intentions, or feelings expressed by physical behaviors, such as facial expressions, body postures, gestures and the use of space. The main source of inspiration for these works is Jurga's experience of capturing wild animals in the nature, their interactions and behaviors.
How much times goes into preparing 8 minutes talk on TEDx stage?

We’re proudly presenting first four speakers for TEDxVilnius 2015 | Pale Blue Dot event: Lawrence Lessig Lawyer and activist Lawrence Lessig spent a decade arguing for sensible intellectual property law, updated for the digital age. He was a founding board member of Creative Commons, an organization that builds better copyright practices through principles established first by the open-source software community.
“From this distant vantage point, the Earth might not seem of any particular interest. But for us, it's different. Consider again that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives.“ -- Carl Sagan The Pale Blue Dot is a photograph of planet Earth taken in 1990 by the Voyager 1 space probe from a then-record distance of about 6 billion kilometers from Earth. Inspired by this fascinating picture, and by the principle idea it represents, this year TEDxVilnius team invites you to reflect on the biggest contradictions and crucial subjects of today. You will spend the day engaged in deep discussions with outstanding speakers and wonderful crowd!
Hi TEDx’ers! The third TEDxVilniusSalon will take the place on Monday, February 9th in an exclusive environment of Vilnius International Airport. Although TEDxVilnius talks are always given in English, this year we're willing to make an exception and have one talk in Lithuanian. So we threw a challenge for Claudio and Muezz (from Bliu Bliu team): to prepare a TEDx Talk in a perfect Lithuanian language. And it got accepted! The conditions are simple: they have one month to send us 6min talk proposal and if it works, we include you in the TEDxVilnius program on April 11th. On March 1st we meet and listen to you deliver that talk to the curatorial TEDxVilnius team.,

Our friends from the TEDxStockholm team are launching Quirkbot -- a toy that allows you to create and program your own robots and make your own toys. Read how TEDx organizers are transforming education and help to bring Quirkbot to the world! It's early spring in Stockholm. The date is April 11th, 2013. Lead Instigator of TEDxStockholm and former speaker of TEDxVilnius and TEDxCopenhagen, Carl Bärstad, is carrying a black box bought in IKEA, a Makey makey, and some LED strips on his way to attend the event Art Hack Day and do an interactive art project (or at least try). Already working on the project HackerspaceInABox in an attempt to bring more hands-on experimentation with technology to schools, Carl still just considers himself a "wannabe maker" and Art Hack Day terrifies him. An event for someone who neither identifies himself as a hacker nor an artist (merely some kind of hustler).
Dear TEDx'ers, As we're keeping TEDxVilnius speaker and very active community member Tomas Dobrovolskis in our hearts and prayers, it is still difficult to find appropriate words to express our feelings towards this loss. We'd like also to share some thoughts from our community members. Read a letter from our long time community member, speaker and events' host Marcus Orlovsky. "It’s taken me some time to get to grips with all of this and what my thoughts really are. In truth, I cannot quite fathom that the work which Thomas was doing won’t continue to evolve. There is so much more we could have learned from him: there are so many people who won’t be enthralled by what he does did: there is so much the world has lost because of the actions of some people who probably had no idea of what they had done, and the loss that they were inflicting on all of us. But Thomas has left us a wonderful legacy, so he does continue to live on and for that we should be thankful. I, for one, feel privileged to have met him, been in his car, enjoyed his company, and to have been in wonder at his ability to have created joy from garbage. He was a wonderful guy and has me changed for the better. To this day every thine I see a rounded look Lampshade I wonder what music lies within it, waiting to be released: when I hear paper being torn I remember his work at TEDxVilnius and I find myself tearing paper to a rythm. For someone to have touched us all, and for me to have instant recall on something as normal as tearing paper is a fantastic testament to him. The people who did this should hang their heads in shame.
A night before Christmas Eve TEDxVilnius speaker and very active community member Tomas Dobrovolskis was attacked in Vilnius and is now fighting for his life. Tomas had to also lead one of the TEDxKids@Vilnius workshops, happening on Saturday, January 10th, and unfortunately, won’t be able to do it anymore. We keep Tomas and his family in our prayers and thoughts, and as Tomas constantly cared so much about us, we feel our responsibility to help him and his family at this very difficult moment. Tomas was the only one supporting his family financially, and we’re asking you all, if you can, to support his family and Tomas’ recovery costs by making a donation to his family’s bank account:

Anonymous companies protect corrupt individuals – from notorious drug cartel leaders to nefarious arms dealers – behind a shroud of mystery that makes it almost impossible to find and hold them responsible. But anti-corruption activist Charmian Gooch hopes to change all that. At TED2014, she shared her brave TED Prize wish: to know who owns and controls companies, to change the law, and to launch a new era of openness in business.

Last Saturday was an exceptional and impressive day for many people here in Vilnius. Hundreds of them gathered in the Theatre Arena early in the morning expecting to hear new ideas, meet interesting pears and, most importantly, be inspired. It's no wonder hopes were high when you know that each year the TEDxVilnius organizers are doing their job better and better. This year was no exception – conference made it to the next level again.
Dear TEDxVilnius, I’m sitting in my office in London having returned from Vilnius with my brain buzzing. I am still getting to grips with what you (we) all made happen. The Diaspora of which I now feel such a part came together before my eyes in a one-day-long Big Bang.
Dear Sponsors & Volunteers, You recently did something that made a difference which is, even now, reverberating around the world. And, amazingly enough, instead of fading, it is actually growing before my eyes as I witness even a few of the conversations that began at TEDxVilnius.
TEDxVilnius will be spreading ideas really widely this year! Invite your friends and watch the conference together at the Simulcast venues
Registration to TEDxVilnius 2014 | The Future Is Ours event is over. Be sure to tune in for the livestream!
